Knit with wire bracelet

This little bracelet makes a great project if you want to try knitting with wire. Knitting it is simple and quick, and in just a couple hours you'll make a cute piece of jewellery that you can wear with almost any casual outfit. Make more of these bracelets as gifts for your friends and family. Let them be amazed at your skills :-)

MATERIALS

Wire - 10m / 11yds of Knitca knitting wire, gauge 30 in a colour of your choice. For the project shown in the tutorial, I used green wire.

Needles - 3.25mm (US3)

Notions - 84 seed beads size 6/0 and a sewing needle

Materials you need to knit the bracelet

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

18 x 2cm / 7 x 3/4"

NOTES

• Though the wire is coated for better comfort, fingers get tired when knitting with wire. Please take occasional brakes to give your fingers some rest.
• Make your stitches tight as knitting wire has little memory and doesn’t hold shape well.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Pre-bead. Thread 84 beads on the wire. Add a few extra beads if you want to make a longer bracelet.

2. Cast on 4 stitches. Make a slip knot and place it on your left hand needle. Then cast on 3 more stitches using backward loop cast on.

3. Work in garter stitch with beads as follows:

Row 1 (plain row): knit all stitches.
Row 2 (bead row): [knit 1 stitch, place a bead (slide 1 bead up the wire and place it between stitches)], repeat brackets to last stitch, knit the last stitch. Pull the bracelet down to form stitches and distribute beads.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until you complete 56 rows. At this point you will have 28 rows of beads and the bracelet will measure 18cm / 7” from the cast on edge. Finish with the bead row.

4. Join the knitted piece into a circle. Leave a 25cm / 10” tail and cut the wire. Keep the open stitches on the knitting needle. Thread the wire tail into a sewing needle. Align the cast on edge with the open stitches. Make sure the bracelet is not twisted. Insert the sewing needle into the first stitch of the cast on edge, then into the first open stitch. Pull the wire through, and take the first open stitch off the knitting needle. Repeat to join the 2nd, 3rd and 4th stitches of the cast on edge to the corresponding open stitches. Secure the wire. Two wire tails should be at the same side of the bracelet. Tie the 2 wire tails with a square knot. Pull tight to secure the knot.

Now cut the wire tails as close to the knot as possible, and enjoy your very own knit with wire bracelet.
