Knit & Purl :: 12

Cute checker pattern that looks super fancy, but in fact is quite easy to make. The wrong side of this pattern looks a bit messy, so this stitch will work best for the projects that don't show the wrong side. Use it to decorate hats, sweaters, socks, mittens and arm warmers.

Yarn shown in this swatch:
Knitca Superwash 100% superwash merino wool, colors #0001 White (Color A), #2716 Periwinkle (Color B) and #2738 Navy Blue (Color C)
Needles:
4.5mm (US7)

Cast on a multiple of 6 stitches. Add 2 selvage stitches.

NOTE: Knit selvage stitches (first and last stitches of every row) in each row with two strands (one strand of one color and one strand of the other color used in the row).

Row 1 (right side): [knit 3 sts with color A, knit 3 sts with color B], repeat brackets to end
Row 2 (wrong side): [knit 3 sts with color B, knit 3 sts with color A], repeat brackets to end
Row 3 (right side): [knit 3 sts with color A, knit 3 sts with color B], repeat brackets to end
Row 4 (wrong side): [knit 3 sts with color B, knit 3 sts with color A], repeat brackets to end
Row 5 (right side): [knit 3 sts with color B, knit 3 sts with color C], repeat brackets to end
Row 6 (wrong side): [knit 3 sts with color C, knit 3 sts with color B], repeat brackets to end
Row 7 (right side): [knit 3 sts with color B, knit 3 sts with color C], repeat brackets to end
Row 8 (wrong side): [knit 3 sts with color C, knit 3 sts with color B], repeat brackets to end

Repeat rows 1-8 as necessary for completing your project.

You can also work according to the chart below. Pattern repeat is marked by red frame.

Note: the chart depicts stitches in right side rows from right to left (that is, your first stitch in right side row will be the first stitch on the right of the chart), and stitches in wrong side rows from left to right (that is, your first stitch in wrong side row will be the first stitch on the left of the chart). To make this concept easier, the number of each row is shown at the beginning of the row (number 1 is on the right side of the chart and number 2 is on the left side). Ignore this note if you knit in the round, and start all rounds from the right of the chart.
